Muay Thai
Muay Thai is known as the art of eight limbs - fists, elbows, knees, and shins. It is one of the most complete and effective striking arts in the world, and one of the most demanding forms of physical conditioning there is.
At CAIRO, we teach it with the respect it deserves. That means proper technique, proper structure, and a coaching approach rooted in how the art is actually meant to be practised - not a watered-down fitness class with Thai pads.
If you're new to it, you're in the right place. If you've trained before, you'll feel the difference.
The art is the workout.
For Kids
Muay Thai is one of the best things a young person can train. The discipline it requires, the focus it demands, and the confidence it builds are the kind of qualities that don't stay in the gym.
CAIRO's junior Muay Thai programme is structured around safe, age-appropriate development. We teach the fundamentals correctly from day one - because good habits formed early are the foundation everything else is built on.
No contact until they're ready. Progression at their pace. A coach who takes their development seriously.
For Adults
CAIRO Muay Thai is open to complete beginners and experienced practitioners alike. The starting point is different. The standard of coaching isn't.
New to the art? We build from the ground up- stance, movement, the fundamental tools of the sport, at a pace that gives technique time to develop properly. Experienced? We work with what you have, identify what needs sharpening, and push you in the right direction.
Sessions cover striking, defensive work, pad work, clinch, and conditioning. Self-defence application is woven throughout - not as a separate module, but as a natural outcome of training the art correctly.
CAIRO 121 sessions run out of partner gyms in Kings Langley and Hoddesdon, with St Albans and more coming soon.
Prefer to train at home?
We come to you. Home visits are available across the area - same coaching, same standard, your space.

Frequently asked questions
-
CAIRO offers 1-to-1 Muay Thai coaching covering all eight weapons: punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, alongside clinch work, defensive technique, and padwork. Coaching is guardian-led, focused on building genuine understanding of the art, not simply drilling combinations. We train people at all levels, including beginners, fitness-focused clients, and competitive fighters.
-
Your coach supplies Thai pads, and has gloves that you will be able to borrow, if you’re looking to invest in your own equipment we can help you choose which gloves, hand wraps and shinguards you may need.
-
No prior experience is needed. CAIRO Muay Thai coaching begins with an assessment of where you are- technically, physically, and in terms of confidence. The first sessions establish your foundations regardless of your background, because even experienced practitioners benefit from returning to first principles.
-
Completely. The majority of CAIRO muay thai clients train for fitness, confidence, stress relief, and technical development - not competition. There is no pressure to spar or fight. Your goals are your own, and your programme reflects them. If you do want to work towards competition in the future, we can build towards that too.
-
Yes- and this is one of the most consistent things CAIRO coaches hear from members. The confidence that comes from Muay Thai is not performed. It is earned through repetition. When you have spent months drilling technique under pressure, your body learns to stay calm in uncomfortable situations. You carry yourself differently. You make different decisions. You are not looking for a fight- you simply know, with quiet certainty, that you are capable of protecting yourself and the people around you if it ever comes to it.
-
A structured hour of Muay Thai burns between 600 and 900 calories, depending on your bodyweight, training intensity, and session format. Sessions combining heavy bag work, padwork, and conditioning drills sit toward the higher end of that range. These figures come from the American Council on Exercise and peer-reviewed sports science research- not marketing estimates. For comparison, a steady 45-minute treadmill run burns roughly 400–500 calories. Muay Thai demands more because it demands more from your whole body, simultaneously.
